Meet Junell

Junell was diagnosed at 14 years old at the end of her 8th grade year in 2022 with stage IV soft tissue sarcoma / MPNST (malignant peripheral sheath tumor). There were no symptoms, suddenly a large painless lump on her thigh that we thought was from intense exercise. Junell spent the next 3 years 9 months living her life with hope and dedication she would be OK while dealing with surgeries, radiation, chemo and four cancer recurrences. Junell worked to live every day with as much joy as possible; finding it in celebrating her 18th birthday going to New York to see plays, or simply talking to her friends on her iPAD.

Junell grew up playing with friends in the playhouse her dad built her, taking turns on the giant rope swing with little sister, and trying many sports at the sherwood Y. Junell loved her room, detested cleaning, and her organizational system remains a mystery. Junell had a passion for all things theater and went to as many plays / musicals as she could (according to bestie they were constantly abusing their Newberg Thespian discount). Junell maintained a 3.9 GPA through her senior year and was planning to attend college. At age 18 on February 16th 2026 Junell had a pulmonary hemorrhage and died at home in her room.

Junell had a beauty, fierceness, and wit that continues to live with those who love her and she will remain an inspired part of her family, communities, and friends. SDF supported Junell and her family through the rollercoaster of having a rare sarcoma and continues the support as we grieve. Thank you for supporting Junell & SDF.
